Perafita is a small municipality in the comarca of Osona, Catalonia, and like hundreds of similarly sized towns it issued its own emergency fractional currency during the Spanish Civil War after the Republican government's decree authorizing local authorities to produce small-denomination notes to address the chronic shortage of coin in circulation from mid-1936 onward. Imprenta Anglada in nearby Vic served as the practical printer of choice for much of Osona's municipal paper, producing runs for numerous councils in the region.
Turró catalogues over 2,000 distinct Spanish Civil War local issues; Perafita's entry at #1804 places it well into the long tail of minor municipal emitters whose total print runs were often in the hundreds rather than thousands.
