Peal de Becerro is a small municipality in Jaén province, Andalusia, and like hundreds of Spanish towns it resorted to locally issued emergency fractional currency during the Civil War years of 1936–1939, when Republican-zone coin shortages became acute and the central government could not adequately supply small change. These municipal issues — sometimes printed, sometimes handwritten or typed on card — were purely stopgap instruments, valid only within the issuing locality and backed by nothing more than the municipality's word.

The Gari Monetary catalog reference without a sequence number suggests either an unconfirmed listing or a recently documented specimen. That ambiguity is itself useful information.
