Organyà is a small town in the Alt Urgell comarca of Catalonia, and like hundreds of similarly sized municipalities, it issued its own emergency paper fractional currency during the Spanish Civil War — the peseta and its subdivisions having effectively vanished from circulation after 1936 as hoarding, requisitioning, and institutional collapse drained hard money from everyday transactions. The Ajuntament simply printed what it needed to keep local commerce functional.
Turró catalogues these municipal Catalan issues exhaustively, and #1715 places this piece firmly within that wartime necessity rather than any formal monetary authority. Alt Urgell fell to Nationalist forces in early 1939, after which all Republican municipal scrip became worthless overnight.
