Olost de Lluçanès is a small municipality in the Lluçanès plateau of Osona, and this 50 céntimos emergency note is one of thousands of tiny local issues produced across Catalonia during the Civil War period when metallic coinage essentially disappeared from circulation. Municipal governments, cooperatives, and even private businesses were authorized to fill the gap, producing an enormous variety of card and paper fractional notes of wildly inconsistent quality.
The Turró catalogue remains the definitive reference for these Catalan Guerra Civil issues. Many small-municipality notes like this one were printed in very limited quantities and survived largely in collector hands rather than through actual wear.
