Nules is a small agricultural town in the Castellón province of Valencia, and like hundreds of other Republican municipalities during the Civil War, it issued its own emergency fractional currency when coinage disappeared from circulation — hoarded, melted, or simply gone. These local vales and billetes were a practical stopgap, legally dubious, and accepted only as far as community trust carried them.
Imp. Chordá was a local print shop, not a security printer, which is exactly what the thick card stock and simple official stamp reflect. The Gari Moneró catalogue entry places this among the better-documented Castellón municipals, but surviving examples in any condition are genuinely uncommon — small-town emergency issues rarely outlasted the war by much.
