Los Navalucillos is a small municipality in the Toledo province of Castile-La Mancha, and this 50 céntimos note is a product of the fractional currency crisis that swept Republican-held Spain from 1936 onward. With coin hoarding rampant and the Banco de España unable to supply adequate small change to remote communities, hundreds of ayuntamientos and local councils issued their own emergency paper — some professionally printed, many produced on whatever equipment was locally available.
The Gari Monerris catalogue documents this piece as 995-B, implying at least one variant exists within the series. Given the town's size and isolation, surviving examples in any condition are genuinely uncommon.
