Móra d'Ebre is a small town on the Ebro in Tarragona province, and this 50 céntimos note is one of hundreds of locally issued emergency fractional pieces produced across Republican-held Catalonia after the July 1936 military uprising severed normal coin supply chains. The Generalitat authorized municipal emissions to fill the void left by hoarded or disappeared metallic currency, and virtually every ajuntament of any size took up the option.
Turró's cataloguing of this series remains the definitive reference — his numbering system covers over 2,000 distinct municipal emissions from the period. The Móra d'Ebre notes were rendered obsolete well before the war's end, when the town fell to Nationalist forces during the Battle of the Ebro in late 1938.
