Martorelles de Baix was one of hundreds of Catalan municipalities that issued their own emergency fractional currency during the Civil War after the Republican government's coin supply collapsed in 1936–37. These local emissions — collectively catalogued under the broader "Guerra Civil" series — were produced at the municipal level with whatever printing resources were available, which typically meant local print shops, minimal security features, and card stock rather than banknote paper.
Turró 1451 is among the less documented issues in the series. The Ajuntament de Martorelles de Baix was a small administrative body, and surviving examples are correspondingly scarce.
