La Zaida is a small municipality on the Ebro in Zaragoza province, and this 50 céntimos note is one of hundreds of emergency local issues that flooded Republican-held Spain after the military uprising of July 1936 drained coin from circulation almost overnight. The Consejo Municipal — the wartime governing body — turned to J. Sanz's print shop in Caspe, roughly 30 kilometres upriver, a town that briefly served as the seat of the Consejo Regional de Aragón in 1936–37.
Caspe's La Tipográfica produced emergency scrip for multiple surrounding municipalities during this period, which accounts for the family resemblance across several Gari-catalogued Aragonese issues.
