La Palma de Cervelló is a small municipality in the Baix Llobregat comarca, and like hundreds of Catalan towns during the Civil War, its ayuntamiento stepped in to fill a catastrophic shortage of small-denomination coinage after metallic currency disappeared from circulation almost entirely by mid-1937. Imprenta Nieto in Barcelona handled production for numerous such local emergency issues, which makes attribution relatively straightforward when the printer's name appears — as it does here.

Turró catalogues this as #1772, one of several denominations from the same series. These hyper-local fractional notes were legal only within their issuing municipality and were recalled — with uneven success — after the Republican government attempted to centralize emergency currency later that year.
