Ibars de Noguera is a tiny municipality in the Noguera comarca of Lleida, Catalonia — during the Spanish Civil War its ayuntament issued this emergency fractional note under the broad authority granted to local bodies by the Generalitat de Catalunya's decree of September 1936, which permitted municipalities to produce small-denomination paper to replace coinage that had largely vanished from circulation. Metallic money was being hoarded, melted, or diverted almost universally across the Republican zone by mid-1937.
Turró catalogues hundreds of these municipal emissions, most produced by local printers with whatever materials were available. Notes from villages of this size rarely survived in quantity — low print runs, heavy use, and the chaos of the Nationalist advance through Lleida in 1938 saw to that.
