Gérgal is a small municipality in Almería province, and like hundreds of Spanish towns during the Civil War, its local council issued emergency fractional currency when Republican-zone coins effectively vanished from circulation — hoarded, melted, or simply absent. These consejo municipal notes filled the gap for the most basic daily transactions, and the 50 céntimos denomination was among the most needed.
Gari Mon#709-B suggests a catalogued variant, likely distinguished by a signature, ink color, or serial numbering difference from the primary type. Paper and card-stock construction varies noticeably within this series, and that inconsistency reflects improvised local production rather than any standardized printing contract.
