Forès is a municipality in the Conca de Barberà comarca of Catalonia with a population that has rarely exceeded a few hundred — making this one of the smallest issuing authorities of the Spanish Civil War emergency currency wave. During 1936–37, hundreds of Catalan municipalities issued their own paper fractional currency after the Republican government's coin supply collapsed and hoarding stripped small change from circulation entirely. The Ajuntament de Forès turned to Imprenta Solé in Tarragona, a regional printer responsible for several of these local emissions across the province.
Notes from micro-municipalities like Forès survive in far smaller quantities than those from larger towns, simply because fewer were printed and the issuing community was tiny.
