Fondón is a small village in the Alpujarra region of Almería province, and like hundreds of Spanish municipalities during the Civil War, its local council issued its own emergency fractional currency when coin shortages made small transactions impossible. The Consejo Municipal's 50 céntimos note is catalogued under Gari Mon #656-B, placing it within the well-documented but numerically vast body of Spanish local war issues — over a thousand municipalities did the same between 1936 and 1939.

Papelería Lacoste in Almería handled printing for several Alpujarran municipalities during this period, which occasionally makes distinguishing between village issues a matter of close typographic inspection rather than obvious visual difference.
