Farners de la Selva is a small spa town in the Girona province, and like hundreds of Catalan municipalities during the Civil War, its ajuntament issued fractional paper currency in 1937 to address the acute shortage of small-denomination coinage — Republican copper and silver had been hoarded, melted, or simply vanished from circulation. These local emissions were authorized under the Generalitat de Catalunya's framework decree of June 1937, though many municipalities had already been printing before the legal scaffolding caught up with them.

Turró catalogues this as #992. The series is genuinely scarce — Farners de la Selva was a minor issuer with limited output, and survival rates for this denomination are low.
