One of hundreds of municipal emergency notes issued across Catalonia during the Civil War, when the collapse of small-denomination coinage left local councils scrambling to maintain daily commerce. Esplugues de Llobregat, a small industrial town immediately southwest of Barcelona, issued this through Imprenta Avant — a Barcelona press that handled a number of these wartime municipal commissions.
The Turró catalogue remains the authoritative reference for this material. Survival rates for Catalan municipal notes vary sharply by town and denomination; the smaller the municipality, the shorter the print run tended to be.
