Els Omellons is a minor municipality in Les Garrigues, Lleida — population in the hundreds even today. This 50 céntimos note is one of the small-denomination emergency issues produced by Catalan local councils during the Spanish Civil War, when Republican-zone towns faced acute coin shortages after silver and copper effectively vanished from circulation. Hundreds of ajuntaments issued their own paper, most in tiny quantities, most on whatever card stock was at hand.
Turró catalogued this issue but survival rates for Els Omellons material are extremely low, which reflects the issuer's size more than any specific destruction event.
