Comments

El Masnou is a small coastal municipality northeast of Barcelona, and like hundreds of Catalan towns during the Civil War, it issued its own fractional paper money after the collapse of metallic coin circulation in 1936–37. The Republican government's inability to supply enough small change pushed local councils — ajuntaments and comitès — to fill the gap themselves, producing what collectors now call "guerra civil locals." Turró catalogued over a thousand distinct emissions from across Catalonia alone.

Imprenta Avant was a Barcelona print shop with known Republican affiliations, responsible for several municipal emissions during this period.
