The denomination '50 cts.' appears in large bold numerals at the right, while the issuer legend and value text in Catalan occupy the left and lower portions of the note. Three facsimile signatures of municipal officials appear at the bottom, identified by their respective titles. The entire design is printed in violet on a lighter lilac background by letterpress.

Reverse description The reverse carries a letterpress vignette illustrating the legendary 'Drummer of El Bruc', the young Catalan drummer boy whose drumming during the Battle of El Bruc on 6 June 1808 reportedly confused the Napoleonic French forces. The figure is shown in the foreground against the distinctive silhouette of the Montserrat massif rising in the background. The scene evokes the local patriotic tradition closely associated with the municipality.

Comments

One of hundreds of small-denomination emergency notes issued by Catalan municipalities during the Civil War, when the collapse of metallic coinage circulation left local governments scrambling to fill the gap. El Bruc — a village of a few hundred inhabitants in the Anoia comarca, better known for the 1808 guerrilla actions against Napoleon's troops — had no business printing currency, but the Republican government's authorization of municipal paper gave them no choice.

Tipografia El Secretariat Català handled a significant volume of these Catalan municipal issues out of Barcelona, which accounts for the professional appearance relative to the note's obscure origin.
