Cornudella de Montsant is a small municipality in the Priorat comarca of Tarragona, and this note is a product of the extraordinary proliferation of local emergency currency — *moneda de paper* — that swept through Republican-held Catalonia after the July 1936 military uprising disrupted coin circulation. With silver and copper hoarded or simply absent, hundreds of municipalities, many of them tiny, commissioned their own fractional notes from local printers. Imprenta De Ferrando in Reus served several such communities across the Camp de Tarragona.
Turró catalogues this as #888 — one of the more thoroughly documented series, though surviving examples from Cornudella remain genuinely uncommon given the village's small population and the chaotic end of the war in 1939.
