| Obverse description | The central field, printed on a salmon-pink underprint with a fine guilloche network, carries the municipal authority's text in Catalan script with two facsimile manuscript signatures below, attributed to the Alcalde (Mayor) at left and the Secretari-Interventor at right. The entire central panel is enclosed within a scallop-edged rectangular border of intricate lace-pattern guilloche in blue, with repeating floral and figural vignette motifs along all four margins. The printer's imprint 'G.O. AVANT - CORTS 719 - BARCELONA' appears at the bottom edge below the outer border. |

One of hundreds of small-denomination emergency notes — known collectively as paper moneda local — issued by Catalan municipalities during the Spanish Civil War after the Republican zone's coin supply effectively collapsed in 1936. The Generalitat de Catalunya had authorized local councils to fill the gap, and Codines del Vallès, a small town in the Vallès Oriental comarca, did exactly that. Imprenta Avant in Barcelona handled printing for numerous such councils simultaneously, which is why the production quality here is noticeably more consistent than notes printed by smaller local shops.
Turró's catalog remains the definitive reference for this series; his number 840 places this emission within a documented but modestly studied corner of the Civil War monetary record.
