One of thousands of emergency paper issues (known as moneda local or paper moneda) that flooded Catalonia after the July 1936 uprising paralyzed the Spanish banking system and created an acute shortage of small change. The Republican government's inability to supply adequate coinage to rural municipalities forced town councils across the region to print their own fractional notes — legally dubious, practically essential.
Imprenta Ausetana in Vic was a workhorse printer for several nearby Osona comarca councils during this period, which accounts for the family resemblance across multiple municipal issues from the area. Centelles itself was a small agricultural town with no particular issuing history before the war.
Turró catalogs this as #805.
