Castejón de Sos is a small mountain village in the Benasque valley of Huesca, Aragon, and like hundreds of other Spanish municipalities it issued its own emergency fractional currency during the Civil War after the Republic's silver coinage vanished from circulation almost overnight in 1936. These local council notes — often little more than stamped slips — were produced in conditions that left almost no documentary record, and the issuing authority here, the Consejo Municipal de Economía, was itself a wartime improvisation.
The official stamp is the primary authentication device, which tells you something about the printing resources available in a village of a few hundred souls.
