Cantoria is a small municipality in the Almería province of Andalusia, and like hundreds of Spanish towns, it issued its own emergency paper money during the Civil War after the Republican government authorized local authorities to produce fractional currency to offset the near-total disappearance of coinage from circulation. These municipal notes — collectively catalogued under the broader "Guerra Civil" local issues — were produced in enormous variety, often by local printers or even stamped by hand, and their quality and survival rates vary wildly. The Gari Mon reference being incomplete suggests this specific denomination remains poorly documented in specialist literature.
