Comments

Broto is a small municipality in the Aragonese Pyrenees, and like hundreds of similarly isolated Spanish towns, its local council issued emergency fractional currency during the Civil War when Republican-zone coinage essentially ceased to exist as a functional medium. The Consejo Municipal turned to whatever printing resources were locally available — which, in a village of this size, meant minimal technical sophistication and almost certainly a job printer rather than a specialist security firm.

Survival rates for these Aragonese municipal issues are highly uneven. Broto's remoteness meant small print runs and limited redistribution outside the immediate valley, which cuts both ways: fewer notes entered wide circulation, but fewer were ever systematically collected or archived either.
