Baza is a small town in Granada province, and like hundreds of Spanish municipalities during the Civil War, it issued its own fractional paper money when coin shortages became acute on the Republican side. These local emergency notes — often called "billetes de necesidad" — were produced under improvised conditions, typically by local printers with whatever materials were at hand. Quality and surviving quantities vary enormously from town to town.
The Gari Monetary catalogue reference places this squarely within that Republican-zone municipal series. Few of these small-denomination Baza pieces have surfaced in major auction records.
