Barrax is a small municipality in the province of Albacete, Castilla-La Mancha. This 50 céntimos note belongs to the enormous category of Spanish Civil War municipal emergency issues — locally produced fractional currency that flooded the Republican zone from mid-1936 onward when metal coinage vanished almost immediately from circulation, hoarded or melted down within weeks of the coup.
The Gari Mon reference number is unlisted, which is not unusual for Barrax. Many of the smaller Manchegan councils produced issues that went unrecorded or were documented only in regional supplements long after the main catalogs were compiled. Survival rates for these tiny-run municipal pieces are genuinely low — they served a hyperlocal purpose and were rarely preserved.
