Bailén issued its own fractional emergency currency during the Spanish Civil War, as did hundreds of municipalities cut off from the central banking system after July 1936. These tiny paper pieces — the Consejo Municipal acting as de facto monetary authority in the absence of functional state infrastructure — were produced locally with minimal security printing and circulated exclusively within the town's immediate economy.

The Gari Mon reference places this within the well-documented Andalusian municipal emission series, though survival rates for Bailén notes are low relative to larger towns.
