Comments

One of hundreds of small-denomination emergency notes issued by Catalan municipalities during the Civil War, when the Republican zone faced a chronic shortage of small change. The Consell Municipal d'Argelaguer — a tiny village in the Garrotxa comarca with a population of only a few hundred — issued its own scrip under the same decree that authorized local emergency currency across the region in 1937–38.

These hyper-local emissions were typically printed in very small runs and rarely traveled far. Survival rates are low not because of heavy use but because almost nobody thought to preserve them.
