L'Ampolla is a small fishing village on the Ebro Delta coast, and its 1937 emergency scrip belongs to the enormous wave of locally issued paper money that flooded Catalonia after the July 1936 military uprising disrupted the supply of small-denomination coinage. The Republic's central authorities never fully resolved the coin shortage, leaving hundreds of municipalities to print their own solutions. Imprenta Solé in Tarragona handled a notable volume of these Catalan municipal issues, and the workmanship is competent if modest.
Turró catalogues this as #149 — the numbering places it firmly within the mid-war period when municipal scrip was already being quietly discouraged by the Generalitat in favor of consolidated regional issues.
