Alp is a small municipality in the Cerdanya comarca of Girona, and like hundreds of Catalan towns during the Civil War, it issued its own fractional paper money after the Republic's small-denomination coins vanished from circulation almost immediately after July 1936. These emergency local notes — collectively catalogued under the Turró reference system — were produced in enormous variety across Catalonia, with quality ranging from crude rubber-stamp affairs to reasonably competent typographic work.

This note was printed by El Secretariat Català in Barcelona, which handled emergency currency for numerous small municipalities during this period. Survival rates for Alp's issues are low simply because the town's population was small and print runs were correspondingly modest.
