Reverse description The crowned coat of arms of Spain occupies the centre of the field, featuring the quartered shield with the castles of Castile and the lions of León, with the oval escutcheon of the House of Bourbon in pretence. The shield is flanked by the Pillars of Hercules, each entwined with a scroll bearing the motto PLUS ULTRA. The circular legend REY CONST. DE ESPAÑA arcs across the upper field, while the denomination 50 CENT. is inscribed in large characters along the lower field. The mint mark letters appear at the base of the pillars, and the whole design is framed by a beaded inner border.
