Reverse description The crowned coat of arms of Spain occupies the central field, quartered with the castles of Castile and lions of León, with the pomegranate of Granada in base and the dynastic oval escutcheon of the Bourbons at the center. The shield is flanked by the two Pillars of Hercules, each wrapped with a scroll bearing the motto PLUS ULTRA. The royal crown surmounts the shield, and the denomination 50 CENT. appears in the lower field. The circumscribed legend REY CONSTL. DE ESPAÑA is flanked by the assayers' marks M·S· to the left and ·M· to the right, all within a toothed border.
