Comments

One of hundreds of municipal emergency notes issued across Catalonia after the outbreak of the Civil War disrupted the supply of small-denomination coinage. The Republican government's inability to maintain adequate coin circulation forced individual towns — Alcarràs among them — to commission their own paper fractional currency, typically from the nearest available printer. Xavier Asensio's Lleida press was a natural choice for several surrounding municipalities in the Segrià comarca.

Turró catalogues these local emissions extensively; #79 places Alcarràs within a well-documented regional pattern, though surviving examples from small agricultural towns in this range tend to be considerably scarcer than those from larger urban centers.
