Alcampel is a small municipality in the Huesca province of Aragon, and like hundreds of Spanish towns it issued its own emergency paper fractional currency during the Civil War after the Republic's metallic coinage effectively vanished from circulation in 1936. These municipal notes — known collectively as "billetes locales" — were produced under chaotic conditions, often printed or stamped locally with minimal security features and no central oversight.
