Albox is a small municipality in Almería province, and like hundreds of Spanish towns during the Civil War, its municipal council issued emergency fractional notes when the Republican government's copper and nickel coinage disappeared almost entirely from circulation — hoarded, melted, or simply lost in the disruption of war. These local issues were authorized under a 1936 decree permitting ayuntamientos and consejos to produce their own low-denomination paper to keep daily commerce moving.
The Gari Morera catalogue documents enormous variation across the Almería provincial issues, and Albox's series is among the less commonly encountered ones — provincial isolation and small print runs combined to make survivors genuinely scarce.
