The Batallones de Obras y Fortificaciones were Republican military engineering units, and their issuance of fractional emergency currency in 1937 reflects the acute small-change shortage that plagued the Republican zone throughout the Civil War. With the peseta fragmenting along political and geographical lines, individual units, municipalities, and trade unions all filled the void independently — this battalion being no exception.
Artes Gráficas Hijo de Constantino Sánchez in Almansa was a provincial commercial printer, not a security specialist. The production limitations show in surviving examples.
