Additional information

Piedforts — struck at double or greater thickness from standard dies — were produced in France and its monetary dependencies primarily as presentation pieces for ministry approval and archive retention, not for circulation. This 1925 Moroccan essai exists within the French Protectorate's broader effort to establish a coherent coinage system for the sultanate under Yusuf ibn Hassan, who reigned as sultan while France maintained fiscal control through the Banque d'État du Maroc. The aluminium bronze composition itself was under evaluation during this period as France tested its durability against the silver it was displacing in subsidiary coinage.

Lec#206b distinguishes this piedfort from the standard essai strike weight.
