Piedforts are struck at double (or greater) thickness specifically for archival and approval purposes — they were never meant to circulate. This 1925 Moroccan essai was produced during the French Protectorate period, when the Paris Mint handled coinage for the Sherifian throne under Yusuf ibn Hassan, who ruled as Sultan from 1912 until his death in 1927. The Lec#206i reference places it firmly in the Lecompte catalogue of French colonial and protectorate issues, a series where piedfort essais in aluminium bronze are genuinely scarce.
