A piedfort essai — struck at double thickness on a standard-diameter flan — this piece was produced in Paris during the French Protectorate period under Sultan Moulay Yusuf, who reigned from 1912 until his death in 1927. French monetary authorities controlled Moroccan coinage throughout this period, with production contracted entirely to the Paris Mint. Essais of this type were struck for official approval and distribution to ministry archives; they never entered circulation.
Lec#206j places this among the documented trial strikes for the 1925 series.
