| Obverse description | Seated allegorical figure of the French Republic (Marianne) facing slightly right, enthroned on a chair flanked by lion-head armrests, holding a torch aloft in her raised right hand and cradling a cornucopia overflowing with fruit and wheat in her left arm. To her right stands a tablet of laws. The engraver's signature G.B.BAZOR appears in the lower field, with the date 1949 in the exergue flanked by decorative sprigs. The legend REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE arcs along the left rim and UNION FRANÇAISE along the right rim. |
