Obverse description Printed in blue on white paper, the obverse is framed by a decorative guilloche border with circular and rectangular ornamental elements. A vignette at left depicts a Kanak native standing in a dugout canoe beside tall palm trees on a coastal scene. The large denomination numeral and text are set centrally, with two manuscript signatures appearing below the decree date, and a serial number at lower left.

Reverse description Printed in blue, the reverse bears the heading REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE and BON DE CAISSE within a decorative frame flanked on each side by a carved Kanak totem post vignette. The central text block presents the penal code warning in three lines, followed by a note on withdrawal from circulation. At the lower centre, the denomination 0.50 is set within a radiating sunburst motif above an oval cartouche inscribed TRÉSOR.
Reverse lettering REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE BON DE CAISSE L'ARTICLE 139 DU CODE PÉNAL PUNIT DES TRAVAUX FORCÉS A PERPÉTUITÉ CEUX QUI AURONT CONTREFAIT OU FALSIFIÉ CES BONS AINSI QUE CEUX QUI EN AURONT FAIT USAGE.
