Obverse description Bare-headed effigy of King Leopold II facing left, rendered in high relief with finely detailed hair and a long flowing beard characteristic of his later portraits. The legend LEOPOLD II KONING DER BELGEN curves along the upper periphery in Dutch, reading 'Leopold II, King of the Belgians.' The engraver's signature TH. VINÇOTTE appears incuse at the base of the truncation. The portrait is executed in a bold, naturalistic style consistent with Thomas Vinçotte's medallic work. A toothed border frames the design.
Obverse script Latin
