The Chambre de Commerce du Puy-de-Dôme was among dozens of French regional chambers forced into emergency note issue during World War One after the Banque de France's small-denomination coinage disappeared almost overnight — hoarded by a public that had stopped trusting the monetary system within weeks of the August 1914 mobilization. These chambres de commerce notes, collectively known as "monnaie de nécessité," filled a vacuum the central bank couldn't address fast enough at the local level.

The multiple JP references across this single entry reflect successive authorization dates and minor typographic variants rather than distinct design changes — a cataloguing headache common to the entire Arnaud-printed Puy-de-Dôme series.
