Reverse description Large denomination numerals '50' dominate the central field, with a superscript 'c' denoting centimes, all enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The circular legend ASSTION DES COMMERÇANTS & INDUSTRIELS runs along the upper periphery within the beaded border, while the date 1920 appears at the bottom, flanked by raised dot stops. The overall design is bold and utilitarian, characteristic of French municipal emergency coinage of the post-World War I period.

Additional information

Maisons-Laffitte's merchant association issued this token during the severe small-change shortage that gripped France in the immediate postwar years. The French state's inability to supply sufficient bronze and copper coinage — metals still being redirected toward postwar industrial reconstruction — forced hundreds of local chambers of commerce and merchant associations to fill the gap themselves. This piece is one of thousands of such nécessité issues that circulated locally between roughly 1919 and 1922, redeemable only within the participating network of shops.

The aluminium composition was a deliberate concession to material costs, not a stylistic choice.
