Obverse description Raised effigy of Benito Juárez facing left, with a long pointed truncation at the shoulder, occupying the central field. The peripheral legend ESTADO L. Y S. DE OAXACA curves along the upper rim, while the date 1915, flanked by stars, appears below the bust near the lower rim. The design reflects the emergency coinage character of the issue, with relatively crude workmanship typical of provisional revolutionary-era strikes.

Additional information

The Provisional Government of Oaxaca issued its own coinage in 1915 after the state declared itself sovereign under Governor José Inés Dávila, refusing to recognize Carranza's Constitutionalist authority. The result was a series of locally produced coins struck from whatever materials were at hand — hence lead, a metal virtually unheard of in legitimate monetary coinage. The "Long Pointed Truncation" designation distinguishes this die variety from the short truncation type, a detail that matters considerably given how few examples survive in attributable condition.
