Piedforts — coins struck at double or greater thickness on standard-diameter blanks — were produced almost exclusively as presentation or proof-of-concept pieces for mint officials, finance ministries, and select collectors. Colombia's 1913 example, catalogued under KM#P3, almost certainly originates from the Waterlow & Sons facility in London, which held the Colombian minting contract during this period and routinely produced piedfort specimens for official approval purposes rather than circulation.
Surviving examples are extremely few; most piedfort runs from this era numbered in the single digits.
