Obverse description The obverse displays the Mexican national arms at center: a Mexican golden eagle perched upon a prickly pear cactus growing from a rock in a lake, devouring a serpent in its beak and talons, with wings spread. The eagle is flanked by an oak branch to the left and an olive branch to the right, tied together at the base. The curved legend REPUBLICA MEXICANA arcs along the upper periphery in raised Latin capitals, all within a beaded border.
