Additional information

Issued as part of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization coin program, which ran from the late 1960s through the 1990s and encouraged member nations to mint coins with agricultural themes as a low-cost public awareness effort. Honduras participated sporadically in the program. The nickel-plated steel composition adopted here reflects fiscal pressures on the Honduran mint during a period when the lempira was under sustained devaluation strain.
