Reverse description The reverse features the Sello de Hacienda (Treasury Seal), the second of Paraguay's two national coats of arms, centrally placed within the design. The national motto PAZ Y JUSTICIA (Peace and Justice) arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination 50 CENTos and the fineness designation 9 Dos FINO (nine-tenths fine silver) appear in the lower portion of the field. The overall design reflects mid-nineteenth century South American coinage style.

Additional information

Paraguay's monetary history in the nineteenth century was repeatedly disrupted by war and political instability, and pattern coinage from this period was often struck abroad — primarily in Birmingham or Paris — as the country lacked domestic minting infrastructure. Many Paraguayan patterns never progressed beyond trial strikes, leaving copper examples like this one as the sole physical record of denominations that were proposed, weighed against fiscal realities, and quietly abandoned.
